Planning ahead with funeral bonds in Warrnambool
A funeral bond is a simple and secure way to plan ahead for future funeral expenses. It allows you to set funds aside now, easing the financial burden on your family later and giving you peace of mind knowing everything is in place when it’s needed.
What is a funeral bond?
A funeral bond is a dedicated investment that can only be used for funeral expenses. After the cooling-off period (14–30 days depending on the provider):
- Funds cannot be accessed until the policyholder has passed away
- The bond can only be used for funeral-related costs
- It accumulates interest over time to help offset rising funeral expenses.
Why consider a funeral bond?
Funeral bonds can:
- Help you prepare and plan ahead
- Ease financial pressure on your family and loved ones
- Provide clarity, organisation, and peace of mind.
Centrelink and DVA exemptions
For those eligible for government benefits, funeral bonds are:
- Exempt from Centrelink and DVA income and assets tests if:
- You have no more than two funeral bonds in total, and
- The combined value does not exceed the annual funeral bond limit.
The current bond limit is $15,750 per person (or joint policy) from 1 July 2025*
* This limit may increase each financial year.
