Rebecca Pike August 24, 2025 For over five years Gert had been an amazing volunteer at the Anglicare Drop-in Centre, Warrnambool. To those who volunteered with her and the people fortunate enough to meet her through this service were greeted with kindness and dry wit each time. She would always put others first, preferring to listen and offer comfort rather than talk about herself and have things done for her. She was never flustered or angry under some genuinely trying conditions, instead just calm and caring. An honest and lovely woman.
We will miss Gert dearly. Our thoughts are with Wal and the family.

Such was her generosity that in 2022 when she could not attend our mid-year Christmas party, she delivered a large cake for the attendees of the function to share, and then made her way on to another commitment. I don’t know how to say how special you were to me. You treated me like one of your Grandchildren, which meant the world to me. You weren’t just a friend to my Mum and I – you were considered family and always will be.
Whenever I saw you, it brightened up my day – with your beautiful smile and big bear hugs! You were such a kind, caring, loving person, who would always help me out if needed and that never went unappreciated.
Every time you went away on a holiday, I couldn’t wait until you were back and I would love listening to all your stories and seeing all the photos, and hearing about your grandchildren. You spoiled me rotten and my Mum, Shirley. Gert, you always brought us beautiful gifts from your travels and my birthday and Christmas, as I did you.
Every Monday night, I couldn’t wait to get to our Club, so that I could see you, and you always loved hearing about my day.
If I was ever unwell, you always rang to see how I was, which was so nice of you and offered to help in any way possible.
Gert, you often called in for visits – which I always enjoyed, and not just me! My cat, Brax David, loved you to bits, and always showed it by giving you kisses and a grooming hairstyle, cuddling with you! He always sooked when you left and, of course, you spoiled him, too.
I enjoyed helping you to complete a set of Collectibles from Coles and Woolworths for your Granddaughter Amira.
I could continue writing for ages about how much I loved you and what you meant to my Mum and I. I will cherish the memories I have of you and the fun we had. I will never forget you and I know, one day, we will meet again in Heaven.
Until then, I will love you always and you will forever be my beautiful, dear friend and family member.
