  2. Condolences Lucy I got to know him as a child I remember him coming around to my father’s house sitting by the fire listen to the radio five years old. Heywood come around on his own and visit the family there was my brother Gary that’s all that was in the family back then and he would bring us some lollies. I’m probably talking about 1960. Being an estate agent and not many telephones around them he would come and contact you if there was an emergency or someone wanted to talk to you he would bring you to resolvers so you could talk on the telephone. Heywood come down to the post office when I was working there to get his mail and he was just full of beans and he always had a little joke to tell me but I never understood a thing. Probably went over my head and he introduced me to Lucy a couple of times he had a private box there of course box 381. He was always so cheery and loved people resting peace . I only found out today because . Have a friend of mine in Geelong text me to tell me today they will be sadly missed a great guy.

  3. Charlie, calling you “our friend” barely acknowledges the respect we have for you.
    A friendship that not only spanned the years, but also the generations.
    How do we condense into a summary the magnificent man that you were and will always be.
    Always a delight to be in your company: the stories – the wonderful ability to recall a story with street names, with people’s names and always a short understanding observation of what made that person who they were, and most times the cars they drove;
    the impromptu performances – a song, a poem, a ditty, a magic trick, a joke;
    the quirky items, Announced with “I’ve got something to show you.” “Have you ever seen one of these?” “Do you know what this is?”;
    the history – you were an almost complete works archive of Warrnambool’s businesses and buildings, you knew the secrets of all the properties;
    the knowledge – so much knowledge across a broad range of subjects, and always happy to impart and share your wisdom;
    the shared laughter;
    the vintage car discussions;
    the swap meets; the phone calls;
    the ginger beers, the prawn cocktails and of course Harry the Humber – “Come out to the shed with me.”
    How lucky were we!
    Thank you for all the wonderful memories Charlie, our life is all the more richer for having had you in it. We are really going to miss you.
